Bacterial Infections

The skin is very resilient but if compromised can get infected. Staph and Strep bacteria are often the cause of skin infections. This can present as multiple small pustules (folliculitis); red, crusty coin-sized plaques with honey-yellow crust (impetigo) or painful, red nodules (boil or furuncle).

Treatment:  antibacterial washes (over-the-counter), antibiotic creams (prescription) and antibiotics. Boils may need to be surgically drained.
