Infections

A skin infection occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, or other microorganisms enter the skin and begin to grow. While the skin is a naturally resilient protective barrier, infections can develop when the skin becomes irritated, damaged, or compromised.

Bacterial skin infections are among the most common, with Staph and Strep bacteria frequently causing symptoms. Bacteria can also cause conditions such as cellulitis and impetigo.

Other types of skin infections include:

  • Viral infections like shingles, warts, or cold sores.
  • Fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot and yeast infections.
  • Parasitic infections like head lice, body lice, or scabies.

Because symptoms can overlap, proper evaluation is important for early diagnosis and treatment to help prevent skin infections from worsening or spreading to surrounding skin.

Treatment Options: Antibacterial washes (over-the-counter), prescription antibiotic creams, oral antibiotics, and surgical drainage for certain boils or deeper infections.

Our experienced providers carefully evaluate the type and severity of your skin infection and recommend the most appropriate treatment to relieve symptoms, clear the infection, and support healthy skin healing.
