The normal aging process can cause your skin to lose structure and volume leading to facial wrinkles, creases, and folds, thin or flat lips, and hollowing of the eyes, temples, and cheeks. Fortunately, there are several non-surgical treatments, such as neuromodulators and dermal fillers, that are available to reverse the signs of aging.

Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators are used to smoothen persistent lines and wrinkles that develop over time due to repetitive muscle contraction. They work by blocking the nerve impulses that cause the muscle to contract thus relaxing the facial muscles that cause the lines andwrinkles.

Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® are neuromodulators utilized to minimize the appearance of isolated wrinkles, such as those located on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and adjacent to the eyes (crow’s feet). The effect is temporary, usually lasting three to six months, however, it has the added benefit of reducing development of future wrinkles by minimizing repeated movement which contributes to wrinkles over time.

This is a well-tolerated and safe treatment with predictable results and very few side effects. The injection of neuromodulators is the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure in the U.S.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can be used to restore youthful fullness to your face, lips and contours, or soften facial creases and wrinkles. Filler substances can replace volume loss providing an immediate result. These treatments are not permanent, but certain options can last up to two years.

The most popular class of dermal fillers is based on Hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. HA works by binding water molecules to retain moisture, volume and softness.

Sculptra is another popular class of dermal filler. Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid which acts as a scaffolding to help rebuild new collagen and restore the underlying structure of the skin. Sculptra usually requires a series of treatments and results develop over time. Sculptra results appear very natural because they come from the body’s natural collagen production and can last up to two years.
