Angioma

An angioma is a harmless, benign skin growth made up of small blood vessels. The two most common types are cherry angiomas and spider angiomas.

Cherry angiomas appear as flat or slightly raised red spots, often measuring 2–4 mm. They typically develop with age and are increasingly common in older adults. They are also prevalent in women who are pregnant due to hormonal shifts.

Spider angiomas are red or purple and have a central spot with fine blood vessels radiating outward, resembling a spider-like pattern. They are most common in children and young adults, especially women and pregnant women, and disappear over time.

In general, angiomas do not require medical treatment, but if you have multiple spider angiomas, it may indicate an underlying condition. Some patients choose to have their angiomas removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become irritated or bleed.

It’s important that you do not try to remove angiomas on your own. This can lead to infection or scarring. If injured or bleeding, they should be cleaned, treated, and covered like a typical wound.

Treatment Options: Cosmetic electrosurgery.

Our experienced providers carefully evaluate each angioma and recommend the most appropriate removal option based on its size, location, and your individual preferences.
