Cysts

A cyst is a common, noncancerous growth that forms beneath the skin. They develop when skin cells, oil, or other material become trapped, creating a sac-like structure that gradually fills over time. Cysts can occur anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the face, neck, scalp, back, and torso.

Most are painless and feel like a smooth, round lump beneath the skin that grows gradually. However, they can become irritated, inflamed, infected, or tender—especially if they rupture or are located in areas that experience frequent friction. Some cysts may also develop a visible central pore or drain a thick, foul-smelling material.

Cysts are generally harmless and do not always require treatment. However, evaluation is recommended if a cyst becomes painful, rapidly enlarges, repeatedly becomes inflamed, or causes cosmetic concerns.

Treatment Options: Observation, drainage, steroid injections for inflamed cysts, or surgical removal.

Our providers will carefully evaluate each cyst and recommend the most appropriate treatment based on size, location, symptoms, and likelihood of recurrence.
