Contact Dermatitis
Contact dermatitis is a red, itchy rash that develops when the skin comes into direct contact with an irritating substance or allergen.
Irritant contact dermatitis is most common and is caused by exposure to substances like soaps, detergents, adhesives, cleaners, and other chemicals.
Allergic contact dermatitis occurs only in individuals who are sensitive to a specific allergen, such as poison ivy, and may present as small, red, itchy blisters or scaly patches.
Symptoms can vary depending on the cause, but often include redness, itching, dryness, and inflammation. A rash can develop anywhere on the body, but hands and arms are most common. Skincare products, cosmetics, or environmental exposures can also cause contact dermatitis on the face.
Treatment Options: Over-the-counter washes, anti-itch lotions, prescription steroid or non-steroidal creams, oral or injected steroids, and oral or injected non-steroidal prescription medications.
Our experienced providers carefully evaluate your symptoms and help identify the underlying cause. They will recommend the most appropriate treatment to relieve discomfort and prevent future flare-ups.
