Cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus type I (HSV1) and present as a red, tingling blister frequently on the lip. Many
people experience a prodrome which is a burning or tingling before the painful red blister appears.
Treatment: cream (over-the-counter and prescription) and antiviral medication
