Seborrheic Dermatitis
Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes redness, irritation, and flaky scales in areas of the body that produce more oil. It often occurs on the scalp, where it is referred to as dandruff or cradle cap in infants, but can also affect the face, ears, eyebrows, and chest.
The exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to an overgrowth of naturally occurring yeast on the skin, excess oil production, and individual sensitivity. Symptoms can range from mild flaking to persistent redness, itching, and greasy-looking scales. The condition is not contagious and often follows a pattern of flare-ups and improvement over time.
While seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic condition, symptoms can usually be managed effectively with proper treatment and skincare.
Treatment Options: Medicated dandruff shampoos, topical antifungal medications, anti-inflammatory creams, and prescription treatments when needed.
Our experienced providers carefully evaluate your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan to reduce discomfort and help prevent future flare-ups.
