This skin disease affects 2-3% of people. It causes thick, red plaques (elevated areas of skin) with silvery white scale usually on extensor surfaces (elbows, knees, and knuckles). More significant occurrences can involve 10% or greater body surface area. Psoriasis can affect more than the skin and may involve the nails and joints.
Treatment: gentle cleansers, moisturizing creams (over-the-counter), steroid and non-steroid creams (prescription), and in more severe cases immunosuppressive and biologic medications Humira and Skyrizi
